President - Minerva Lopez
Minerva Lopez is the Tourism Director for the City of Marfa. Previously, she had a long career as coach and educator with the Marfa ISD. She was the Business Manager for Bethage, an independent living facility for disabled persons. Born and raised in Marfa, family and community are very important to Minerva. She is married to a wonderful man and has two beautiful grandchildren. Her family also includes 4 dogs, 1 cat and a parrot. Minerva is deeply committed to reaching out and helping as many people as she can.
Vice President - Mark Rodriguez
Mark Rodriguez owns and operates local Marfa landmark, Mando's Restaurant. He and his wife, Elizabeth, are "parents" to 6 dogs: Princess, Chico, Precious, Boy, Sheila, and Coco. Growing up in Sanderson, TX, which is even smaller than Marfa, Mark understands it's often the little things that make a big difference in remote West Texas communities.
Secretary/Treasurer - Patsy Culver
Patsy and her husband Ken Durham have come home to West Texas. She is a CPA who grew up in Midland and graduated from UT Permian Basin while her husband Ken is from El Paso.
Back in 1987 they left and lived on the East and West Coasts, along with time being spent in both Houston and Dallas. Meanwhile they built a house south of Alpine so they knew their travels would bring them back, which happened in 2007.
Professionally, Patsy practices as a CPA specializing in Non Profit Clients. She has served on several non profit boards including those focused on animal rescue. She is a past Chair of the Dallas CPA Society and is active in the Texas Society of CPAs. Previously, she was the Director of Accounting and Governance Services with Accretive Solutions a professional accounting finance and information technology firm in Dallas Texas. Patsy has also served in both the Controller and CFO roles with a number of organizations, both non-profit and for profit.
After spending a couple of years in Shelter Rescue she has switched her focus to the root cause and fully supports Spay Neuter as a solution. That is why ROMP is so important to her goals. Patsy is bringing her financial expertise to ROMP and looks forward to lending herself to Stopping Pet Overpopulation.
Kathie Compton, Executive Director (non-voting)
Kathie Compton is a professional trainer and dog behavior consultant, owner of mARFa Dog Training and co-owner of Marfa Gliders. Prior, Compton served as Executive Director for a subsidiary of Hoechst Pharmaceutical. She also served as Human Resources Director for a division of Life Care Services Corporation, as Assistant Technical Director for Aerolease International, and as Executive Secretary to the President of Avmark. She served on the Board of Directors of the Greater Miami Aviation Association, the General Federation of Women's Clubs, Marfa chapter, the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants, and ROMP. Compton is the author of the book, "Dogs...Made Easy! A New Owner's Manual". In 2012, she was recipient of the IAABC Dog Division's Member of the Year Award for founding and leadership of ROMP. She and her husband Burt live with Yorkshire Terrier Cozy Dog, in Marfa.
